Senior Front End Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Front End Engineer will work within The Bernard Group’s Online Division: Smartrpress.  The role will lead all Smartpress (and Storefronts) prospect and customer-facing user interface front end development efforts.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Own the Smartpress (and Storefronts) template theme code base.
    • Manage, execute, and advise on all creative team front end development projects from requirements gathering through deployment and ongoing support.
    • Partner closely with the creative team designers from project concepting through research, design process, presentations, launch, and continual innovation.
  • Be passionate about introducing and adhering to a modern, clean, and powerful front end code methodology.
    • Mentor other front end developers and designers on the creative team through the process of learning, implementing, and adopting that methodology.
    • Be a consultative, knowledgeable, and inspirational resource to less experienced members of the Creative Team.
  • Have an ingrained understanding that beautiful code is the platform for delivering a beautiful customer experience.
    • Partner with the Creative Director and designers in translating the brand’s greater creative direction into the bleeding edge of the digital medium.
    • Push the boundaries of web technology, while being both on-trend and trendsetting.
    • Contribute brilliant ideas for the benefit of the product.
  • Co-author and execute on the Smartpress product roadmap by collaborating with the creative team, development team, senior management, project stakeholders, and other departments.

Qualifications and Skills

Education, Experience and Credentials

  • Provide a range of exceptional work examples (Ideally including live links)
  • 5+ years of agency or corporate front end development experience
  • Experienced with Adobe Photoshop (and other web design software)
  • Project management experience with agile development methodology
  • People management, team building, and mentoring experience is preferred
  • Web design experience is preferred
  • Computer Science, Design, or related degree (two or four year degree)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Javascript and CSS Guru
  • Expert with responsive web development
  • Veteran with graceful degradation and cross-browser compatibility
  • Expertise in code version control and collaborative team coding
  • Exposure to accessibility standards
  • Strong communicator
  • Motivated self-starter, with excellent project management skills
  • Presentation skills desired
