Prepress Technician


The Prepress Technician ensures that electronic customer files and layouts contain the necessary components; prepares files to match the intention of the designer; and prepares and checks files to make them printable.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensure that files and layouts contain the necessary components 
  • Check file resolution and colors to ensure that they match the desired end product
  • Prepare and check files to make them printable
  • Ensure files are imposed and set up to maximize yield of specified substrate and print device
  • Document, name files correctly, and rips files (converts to a format that printers can use)
  • Follow all Company protocols and procedures according to Company standards.
  • Use computer and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, or process information

Qualifications and Skills

Education, Experience and Credentials

  • High School degree required, Two-year degree in Art, Printing, or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • Degree or certification from a Trade School or Vocational-Technical Institute preferred.
  • Six years’ minimum (Ten years preferred) Prepress experience in the printing industry required (wide format preferred).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient computer skills, including Adobe Creative Suite (including shortcuts), Pitstop, Word, Excel, Outlook, GMG knowledge is a plus.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills; able to deal with a variety of people and personalities; understands and displays high levels of internal and external customer service.
  • Possess thorough, organized and detail-oriented approach to work. Possess effective problem solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, fast learner, shows initiative, willing to seek out employee and customer needs and meet them.
  • Able to complete projects accurately within deadlines while meeting Company quality standards.
  • Able to apply effective time management and self-management skills. Able to be flexible, positive, and productive in an environment with regular interruptions.
  • Able to demonstrate good teamwork, and work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
  • Understand and maintain confidential nature of organization, employee and customer information, including and in accordance to HIPAA regulations.
