Senior Prepress Technician

Job Summary

The Prepress Technician ensures that electronic customer files and layouts contain the necessary components. They will be responsible for preparing files to match the intention of the designer; and prepare and checks files to make them printable.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Works closely with Smartpress.com customer files to ensure all text, images, UPC, fonts, and other information necessary for quotations and development of print ready PDFs are in house.
  • Performs preflight checks to ensure all print elements are included, while communicating with the customer to resolve missing components.
  • Help resolve and pro-actively identify customer needs and recommend possible solutions.
  • Reviews all job information to ensure quality and customer expectations are met. Organize and maintain job documentation, including the retention of files and records of communication.
  • Performs file prep steps necessary to create print-ready PDFs, including the creation of die-lines & templates.
  • Sends soft-proof of final PDF to customer for approval.
  • Facilitates the creation of hard-copy proofs as requested by the customer.
  • Work with Smartpress staff to help translate prepress processes to an automated, web-to-print environment.
  • Collaborate with press operators and customers to ensure print files are correct and streamline the print process.

Qualifications and Skills

Education, Experience and Credentials

  • High School degree required, Five-year degree in Art, Printing, or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • Degree or certification from a Trade School or Vocational-Technical Institute preferred.
  • Six years’ minimum (Ten years preferred) Prepress experience in the printing industry required (wide format preferred).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient computer skills, including Adobe Creative Suite (including shortcuts), Pitstop, Word, Excel, Oris knowledge is a plus.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills; able to deal with a variety of people and personalities; understands and displays high levels of internal and external customer service.
  • Possess thorough, organized and detail-oriented approach to work. Possess effective problem solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, fast learner, shows initiative, willing to seek out employee and customer needs and meet them.
  • Able to complete projects accurately within deadlines while meeting Company quality standards.
  • Able to apply effective time management and self-management skills. Able to be flexible, positive, and productive in an environment with regular interruptions.
  • Able to demonstrate good teamwork, and work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
  • Understand and maintain confidential nature of organization, employee and customer information.
