CNC Operator

Job Summary

Produces machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Configures CNC by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Loads machine with work pieces.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces
  • Maintains specifications by observing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; editing programs; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Meets production goals in terms of cycle time, quantity, and quality.
  • Do basic maintenance of CNC and document such tasks in the log book.
  • Performs miscellaneous projects and completes various tasks as requested by management.
  • Perform duties in other areas of the Acrylics shop

Qualifications and Skills

Education, Experience and Credentials

  • Two-year Technical or Trade school diploma or certification, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Three years minimum related experience in CNC operating preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Able to evaluate work flows to create work standards. Able to create and improve efficient and effective work processes.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machine, along with general tool knowledge.
  • Able to conform to shifting priorities, demands and time lines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Able to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work in a fast-paced environment. Able to work unsupervised, make high level decisions independently, and solve problems effectively and creatively.
  • Able to display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization.
  • Able to develop and give oral presentations to small groups of individuals inside and outside the organization.
  • Understand and maintain confidential nature of customer, organization and employee information.
  • Show professional knowledge, proficiency and initiative in achieving goals and meeting company standards.
  • Able to identify, evaluate, problem solve, and give direction regarding problem resolution for individual and Team issues.
